Jennings County Officials Preparing for Severe WeatherGovernor Mitch Daniels has declared this week to be Severe Weather Preparedness Week. In Jennings County, 911 Director Matt Alexander says they will be testing their severe weather sirens, protocols of the 911 office, as well as the protocols of every other county government office. Alexander added that the county will be participating in the state wide severe weather test scheduled for Wednesday. The morning test is expected to take place in the ten o'clock hour. The evening test, in the seven o'clock hour. He says area businesses are not legally required to take part in these drills, but they are encouraged to do so. As for schools, Alexander says they schedule and practice their own drills. Alexander encourages all Hoosiers to have a severe weather plan in place in place at home, to practice it and insure that all members of the household know where to go in case of severe weather. He added that if you find yourself outside and away from shelter in a severe storm, you should find the lowest lying area you can, such as a ditch or culvert, and wait it out.
