Severe Weather Preperadness week continues. Joseph Nield with the National Weather Service urges you to know the difference between a severe weather watch and a severe weather warning. He says that watches usually cover a larger geographical area, covering mutiple counties or states for an extended period of time. Warnings are much shorter in duration and will cover specific portions of a county, city or neighborhoods. Watches mean weather conditions could support a weather incident. Warnings mean that a weather incident has occured or is immenent.

It won't be long until we enter the prime tornado season. Nield with the National Weather Service says the traditional tornado season runs from late April to early June. He stresses that tornados, and severe weather in general, can occur at any time if conditions warrant. He says it is important for every family to be prepared for severe weather, even in the middle of the night. That's why it is a good investment to purchase a weather alert radio. These radios turn on whenever a warning is isuued for your area. These radios can be purchased at most major retailers at a cost of around fifteen dollars.
