North Vernon Police Arrest Two After Pursuit.

North Vernon Police arrest two after a vehicle pursuit. At approximately 2:00 a.m. Sunday, Officer Todd Beam attempted to stop a red 2-door 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier after observing several traffic violations in the area of Madison Avenue and Fifth Street.  The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Robert Allen McCain, 40, of Indianapolis, failed to respond to emergency overhead lights and sirens and led police on a 10 mile vehicle pursuit that ended in the driveway of a residence on State Road 7 North.

Officers made contact with McCain and his passenger Nicole Colvin, 34, of Indianapolis. McCain was discovered to be intoxicated and initially arrested for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated a Class C Misdemeanor and Resisting Arrest by Fleeing in a Vehicle a Class D Felony.

During contact with McCain, Officers observed a moderate amount of marijuana packaged in a clear sandwich baggy that was lying in plain sight in the rear passenger compartment of the vehicle.  The marijuana was seized and McCain was additionally charged with Possession of Marijuana a Class A Misdemeanor.

Colvin was arrested for Possession of Marijuana a Class A Misdemeanor and Public Intoxication a Class B Misdemeanor.

McCain later failed a certified breath test with a Breath Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of .12% and was additionally charged with Operating a Vehicle with a BAC greater than .08% a Class C Misdemeanor.

The Jennings County Sheriff’s Department, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, and Columbus Police Department assisted in the apprehension.
