Worton, Kruchten To Retire From Columbus Police

The Columbus Police Department is announcing the retirement of two veteran police officers. 

Lt. Matt Myers, with Columbus police, says Sergeant Marc Kruchten and Detective James Worton are retiring from the Columbus Police Department after serving Columbus for a combined 47 years.

Sergeant Kruchten began his employment with the Columbus Police Department in April of 1980. He served this Department as a patrol officer, a detective and a Sergeant in both the uniform and investigations divisions. Sergeant Kruchten served this community as a hostage negotiator, ice/water rescue and recovery specialist, an arson investigator and led several major criminal investigations during his tenure in the investigations division.

Detective James “Jim” Worton began his career with the Columbus Police Department in February of 1993. Detective Worton served as a patrol officer, detective, sergeant in both the uniform and investigations divisions, a captain in the investigations division, deputy chief and Chief. During Detective Worton’s career, he was an instructor in several disciplines, served on the Department’s SWAT team and conducted major investigations, specializing in crimes against children. Detective Worton most recently severed as the Department’s Chief from January 2008 until January of 2012.

Both have been a huge asset to our department and community. We are better as a department and communities having had these two outstanding men serve in the roles they have,” Columbus Police Chief Jason Maddix said.
