A North Vernon woman is in the Jennings County Jail for allegedly bringing heroin into Bartholomew and Jennings County from Indianapolis and Cincinnati.

Columbus Police Chief Jason Maddix says following a two month investigation, 29-year-old Erika J. Swindell was arrested recently by officers from the Columbus Police Department and Jennings County Sheriff’s Office on a preliminary charge of dealing heroin.

“Our undercover narcotics team works tirelessly to investigate these cases. I am very proud of their efforts.  Heroin is such a potent and dangerous drug.  There is no doubt in my mind that this arrest will help save lives,” Maddix said.

“Cutting off the supply of drugs into our community is job one for our police department. Chief Maddix and his team are aggressively pursuing drug dealers with any available legal means. We cannot have this activity in our community,” Columbus Mayor Kristen Brown said.
