Weekend Crash Injures A Bartholomew County Sheriff's Deputy

A Bartholomew County Sheriff's deputy suffered minor injuries in a Sunday afternoon crash.

Sgt. Noel Houze, with Indiana State Police, says shortly after 1 p.m., 39-year-old Chad Swank was going east on County Road 800 North approaching County Road 500 East. The deputy was responding to an emergency call when he passed another car going east on County Road 800 North driven by 23-year-old Claire Shoaf of Columbus.

As Deputy Swank was passing Shoaf, she made a left turn onto County Road 500 East into the path of the deputy. The deputy took evasive action to avoid the collision, but struck Shoaf's car in the right rear.

Deputy Swank was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital with a complaint of pain in his hand. Shoaf and her three-year-old son, Wesley, were also taken to Columbus Regional Hospital with what appeared to be very minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
