Work To Replace Historic Bridge On SR 9 To Start In April

INDOT says it will be closing the historic Parker steel truss bridge on State Road 9 north of the Shelby-Bartholomew County line April 1 so work can begin to remove it in order to make way for a new bridge over the Flat Rock River.

Officials say the new $1.8 million bridge over the Flat Rock River will be wide enough to accommodate two 12-foot lanes with 7-foot shoulders. Plans also call for replacing a box culvert, reconstruction of approaches and some road realignment.

The current bridge is being retired due to structural deficiencies and is functionally obsolete.

State Road 9 will be closed from April 1 through mid-November. You should use State Road 44, Interstate 65 and State Road 252 to get around the construction area.
