Woman Crashes SUV Into Washington Street Store

A Columbus woman was not hurt after she crashed her SUV in front of Lockett's Ladies Shop on Washington Street Tuesday afternoon.

Lt. Matt Myers, with Columbus Police, told our news gathering partners at "The Republic" 64-year-old Teresa James was shaken up by the crash that happened around 2:30 p.m. She was checked at the scene for possible complications to a medical condition. Myers says the crash only caused minor damage to the front of the business.

Myers noted that James mistakenly believed her 2004 Jeep Cherokee was in park when she pushed on the accelerator. That action caused the SUV to lurch forward, knocking over a handicapped parking sign, and striking the front of the store. He says the Columbus Fire Department freed the handicapped sign from the undercarriage of the vehicle before it was towed away.
