Sheriff's Deputy Arrested For Allegedly Driving Drunk
A Decatur County Sheriff's deputy was arrested recently following an alcohol-related incident in Bartholomew County.
Major Todd Noblitt, with the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office, told the "Greensburg Daily News" Deputy Doug Pittman was arrested early Wednesday morning on Base Road, near State Road 46 in Bartholomew County.
The 38-year-old Pittman was booked into the Bartholomew County Jail on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content over .15 percent, public intoxication, and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in property damage. Major Noblitt told the paper that Pittman’s BAC was tested at .16, which is twice the legal limit allowed when operating a motor vehicle. All three charges are misdemeanors.
Major Noblitt says Pittman was not on duty at the time of the incident. Pittman was arrested in his personal vehicle, a blue Dodge Ram pickup truck, following a search by Bartholomew County deputies for a suspicious vehicle in the area of State Road 46 and Base Road shortly after midnight Wednesday.
A firearm was confiscated from the vehicle following the deputy’s arrest. The weapon was then remanded to Decatur County Sheriff Greg Allen, who assisted at the scene with Lt. Eric Blodgett. Major Noblitt could not confirm whether or not the gun in the vehicle was Pittman’s police issued firearm.
