Solid Waste Is Now Recycling Vinyl SidingThe Columbus Bartholomew County Recycling Center is now recycling vinyl siding. Heather Siesel, education coordinator for the Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District, says the decision to start recycling vinyl siding came after a conversation the district had with officials in Greensburg about the matter. She says Greensburg has been recycling vinyl siding for over a year-and-a-half now. Siesel explains that it was officials from the Columbus center that approached Greensburg initially about being a part of their program and bringing them some product. "Unfortunately when they started, they did not have that capacity to take in more product," Siesel said. "And recently, they have decided that they want to expand. They are working with a company called Fineman Recycling that's picking up their vinyl siding. And they are kind of wanting to expand their program, so they contacted us and asked if we wanted to be involved in their program. So that's kind of how we go started and into this recycling opportunity." When you bring your vinyl siding to the recycling center, it needs to be clean meaning it must be free of all nails and insulation. Residents and commercial businesses in Columbus and Bartholomew County are welcome to bring their vinyl siding to the recycling center, located at 720 South Mapleton Street, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Siesel says when you bring your siding, make sure to stop by their office so someone can show you where the bin is and talk to you more about the program.
