Police Release Teen's Name Involved in Fatal Crash

We now know the name of the Greenwood teen killed while riding his scooter on U.S 31 in Franklin Monday.

Franklin Police say 15-year-old Jacob Derrickson was driving his scooter southbound on U.S. 31 near Pizza Hut when he was struck by a car attempting to make a left turn from the northbound lane into the Heartland Bank parking lot. The car's driver, 25-year-old Elaine Maurer, told police she didn't see the scooter coming south on U.S. 31. The scooter crashed into the right side of Maurer's vehicle near the front.

Maurer complained of pain in her right shoulder, but refused treatment at the scene. She showed no signs of impairment and tested negative for alcohol.

Derrickson was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Police say Derrickson had no identification with him when the accident happened. It took officers until around noon to positively identify him.

Police say no criminal charges have been field. The Johnson County Coroner's Office continues to investigate.
