Riley Awards Grant to Park Foundation for 'Race2Play'

The Columbus Park Foundation recently received a $10,000 grant from the Riley Children's Foundation to help fund the Race2Play Program.

Officials say Race2Play is a collaborative effort with the City of Columbus, the Tony Stewart Foundation, Carter's Kids Foundation, the Jared Fogle Foundation, Heritage Fund of Bartholomew County and many local donors which raised over $500,000 to build four new playgrounds in Columbus.  These playgrounds were officially opened on May 8 and now serve families and children in the Ninth Street Park, Pence Street Park, Morningside Park and Mead Village Park neighborhoods.  In addition to the new playgrounds, the Come Out & Play free playground program was expanded to include Morningside Park, thanks to a generous grant and partnership from the Columbus Regional Health Foundation.

“Each year, families from all 92 Indiana counties visit Riley Children's Hospital,” said Kevin O'Keefe, president and CEO of the Riley Children's Foundation. “Because of this statewide impact, we are proud to work with communities to improve the health and well-being of children…and are pleased to announce that The Columbus Park Foundation has been awarded this grant.”

“The Columbus Park Foundation Board is thrilled to receive support from the Riley Children's Foundation,” said April Williams, resource development and projects director for the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department. “Riley's reputation for assisting children in need both in Indiana and throughout the country is unmatched and we are proud to have their stamp of approval on the Race2Play project.”
