Seymour Begins Process to Annex over 19 Acres

The Seymour City Council took initial steps Monday night to annex some property currently bordering the city.

The council voted to begin the process of annexing just over 19 acres, commonly called the "Bushman Annexation." The annexation is being referred to as "super voluntary" as 100 percent of property owners in the affected area agreed to the plan.

Due to state laws requiring that any annexed property must be have at least one-eighth of the land connected to existing city boundaries, the annexation must be broken up in to two separate actions. The entire area is expected to be incorporated into Seymour by mid-November. The property will be assigned to Seymour City Council District Number One.

Property owners plan to develop the property for housing the increasing number of professionals moving to the city as part of the Cummins expansion. Developers spoke about their goals for the property and said that they wanted to build a high-end apartment complex similar to The Cole in Columbus. The remaining property will be divided up and homes in the $200,000 range will be built.

The construction is expected to begin shortly after the entire 19.3 acre parcel is annexed.
