Seymour Woman Faces Charges in Fatal Crash

A six-week investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office has led to the arrest of an rural Seymour woman on various charges connected with the June 1 death of 35-year-old Crystal D. Engleking on State Road 258 west of Cortland.

 

Officials say 18-year-old Brianne E. Maynard is charged with reckless homicide, causing death when operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, causing death when operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of .08 or more, and causing death when operating a motor vehicle with a Schedule I and II controlled substance. She is currently being held on a $10,005 cash bond.

 

They say Maynard's charges have been sent to Jackson County Prosecutor Amy Marie Travis. No other arrests are expected, but the case is still being completed with other interviews possible.

 

Officials say in a press release that on June 1, Lt. Darin Downs investigated a two vehicle crash on State Road 258 west of Cortland. Engleking was killed in the crash when Maynard's car that was going eastbound crossed the center line and hit Engleking's pickup truck that was going westbound.
