Two Columbus Residents Killed in Crash

A father and daughter from Columbus were killed in a Sunday evening crash along State Road 3, just north of Muncie.

According to "The Star Press" newspaper in Muncie, 51-year-old Joseph D. Wesolowski and his 16-year-old daughter, Michelle Wesolowski, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the elder Wesolowski was driving an SUV southbound on State Road 3 when, at about 7:20 p.m., he attempted to pass a car that began turning left into a driveway.

The two vehicles collided, sending the SUV head-on into a concrete driveway culvert.

Investigators believe that neither victim was wearing their seat belt. The front-seat passenger, 50-year-old Barbara S. Wesolowski, was wearing her seat belt and survived the crash. She is the wife of Joseph and mother of Michelle.

The paper reports that Barbara Wesolowski was taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie and later transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Her condition is unknown.

The driver of the second vehicle was also taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. Her identity and condition have not yet been released.
