Two Arrested on Drug Charges in Jennings County

Jennings County authorities arrested two people on drug charges Monday afternoon.

Major Jerry Shepherd, with the Jennings County Sheriff's Department, says that at 2:45 p.m., officers went to a home at County Road 7615 East County Road 15 South in Butlerville to arrest 34-year-old Michael W. Bowling on a warrant for dealing in narcotics. Major Jerry Shepherd and Lt. Brian Talkington took Bowling into custody without incident.

Also taken into custody was Bowling's girlfriend, 31-year-old Jennifer Jones. Officials say that Jones was also involved in this investigation. Officers served a search warrant on the residence and seized several cell phones, scales, marijuana, syringes and other paraphernalia used in the distribution of heroin and other illegal drugs. Officers also seized $4,221 in cash.

Shepherd says the arrests were the result of an eight month investigation that focused on the delivery, sale and use of heroin in the community. Deputies reportedly made numerous controlled drug buys in the North Vernon area during their investigation. In the Bowling case, officers made at least three controlled buys of heroin from him at his West Poplar St. home in North Vernon. Authorities say Bowling and his girlfriend had just recently moved to the Butlerville area from Poplar Street.

Investigators say that Bowling has been a major source for much of the heroin that has been coming into Jennings County over the summer. Officials say their investigation remains active and as a result of this arrest, additional arrests are expected.

Bowling is facing three felony counts of dealing in narcotics and three felony counts of possession of narcotics. Bond was set at $200,000.

Jones is facing felony charges of possession of a syringe, possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance. She is also facing one misdemeanor count of possession of paraphernalia. Authorities say additional charges are pending. Jones' bond has been set at $10,000.

Bowling and Jones were both booked in the Jennings County Jail.
