Traffic Stoppages on U.S. 50 in Jennings County

Expect more traffic stoppages Wednesday evening in conjunction with the U.S. 50/North Vernon Bypass project.

INDOT will stop all traffic on U.S. 50 at Storm Creek, about two miles east of U.S. 31, Wednesday evening while construction crews set bridge beams. INDOT says there will be three stoppages lasting 15 to 20 minutes each beginning at 6 p.m. Work should be completed within three hours.

According to a press release from INDOT, three beams measuring 66 feet in length must be lifted from transports and placed on bridge piers at the north side of the roadway. Steel deck pans will also be off-loaded during the placing of the beams.

State officials say that Force Construction, the state's contractor, is building the three-span Storm Creek bridge in two parts. Once the north half has been constructed, traffic will switch over to it. That will clear the south side of the bridge for demolition and reconstruction.

The Storm Creek bridge construction is part of Phase I of the $21.9 million U.S. 50/North Vernon Bypass Project.
