Underage Drinking Party Leads to One Arrest

Over two dozen people were involved in an underage drinking party late Saturday night in Johnson County that led to the arrest of a Bargersville man for minor possession of alcohol.

Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox says deputies went to 2150 Woodsway Drive in Greenwood around 11:30 p.m. on a report that some juveniles were out back drinking and no parents were there.

When a deputy went around to the front door, a man walked out to him. When the deputy spoke to him in the driveway, he said drinking might have been going on but had just arrived and wasn’t sure. At this time, three more people walked out from the garage. The deputy told them to stop to speak with him and they did. The deputy then made contact with several juveniles behind the home.

The deputy reported on his radio that several juveniles had run into the house. The three he had just spoken with and had sent back into the house ran through the garage and out the back door by the time he came around the back corner of the house.

The deputy saw one man and two women running through the backyard in which he gave chase, told them who he was, and they stopped. They went back into the home.

After the deputy went around to the front and walked through the front door, he saw a beer can, several beer bottles and several plastic cups with a pink liquid in it.

When other deputies arrived, the house was searched and 25 juveniles were found hiding in different areas of the home. While search for one of the juveniles, a deputy had to deploy a Taser on another juvenile that was fighting with him and not obeying his orders.

Officials then asked each juvenile to give them their name, date of birth and then had each one do a portable breath test. One refused while five were over the legal limit of .08.

One person, 18-year-old Joseph D. Wise of Bargersville, was arrested for minor possession of alcohol. He was lodged in the Johnson County Jail.

One juvenile was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center for resisting.
