One-car Crash in Shelby County Claims Man's Life

An Indianapolis man died in a one-car crash in Shelby County Monday afternoon.

Rich Myers, with Indiana State Police in Indianapolis, says at 4:45 p.m., troopers responded to the crash on London Road just south of County Road 700 North that took the life of 52-year-old Robert Ferree.

A preliminary investigation and witness statements revealed that Ferree was driving his car northbound in the 6800 block of London Road when for unknown reasons his car left the roadway and struck a tree. The crash resulted in the car becoming engulfed in flames. The Shelby County Coroner's Office pronounced Ferree dead at the scene.

Myers says witness information indicated Ferree was traveling 60 to 70 miles per hour prior to the crash and no evidence of braking was discovered at the scene.

The crash investigation is continuing.
