United Way of Bartholomew County Begins Fundraising Drive

The United Way of Bartholomew County has begun its fundraising drive for 2014.

Mark Stewart is with the local chapter of the United Way. He says the group is looking to raise $4 million to help support 26 not-for-profit organizations in Bartholomew County. That represents about 36 different programs. Stewart says that in all, the United Way touches some 25,000 Bartholomew County residents each year. That's nearly one in three county residents.

Stewart says that those who give can be confident that their donations are being utilized well. He says they have a group of volunteers who go through the books of each organization that receives United Way funds. Stewart says this is done to protect the donors, the good name of the United Way and the overall goals of the organizations receiving funding.

Stewart went on to discuss how people can help others beyond monetary donations. He recited the United Way's slogan of "Give. Advocate. Volunteer." Stewart says individuals can make a difference not only by volunteering, but by doing so for a cause that they are passionate about.
