'Touch A Truck' Event Wednesday

The city of Columbus will once again provide fire trucks, police cars and other large vehicles and equipment for the annual "Touch A Truck" event, organized by Family School Partners. "Touch A Truck" offers a learning opportunity to young children by letting them explore dozens of vehicles.

Chris Schilling, with Community Development, says the city will have a fire engine, police car, the SWAT team vehicle, the ColumBUS, sanitation trucks and other equipment available for children to see and touch at the annual free event. It will run Wednesday, from 9 to 11 a.m., at Clifty Park and is open to all kindergarten and preschool students. Mayor Kristen Brown will be in attendance.

Hundreds of children participate in the annual event, getting to sit behind the wheel of a police car, ride up into the air in a city bucket truck. Family School Partners expects to have about 40 vehicles on hand from the city and other partners, including a helicopter.
