Oktoberfest Begins Thursday

Oktoberfest kicks off Thursday in Seymour.

This year marks the 41st annual edition of the festival celebrating the area's Germanic heritage. The celebration lasts for three days and will include food, carnival rides, games, crafts and a bier garten.

Booths are scheduled to open at 11 a.m. Thursday. Opening ceremonies take place at 5 p.m. The event runs through Saturday night.

Other events scheduled for the celebration include a bluegrass festival, 5k run/walk/wheelchair race, baking contest, German music and a flea market. The annual parade, sponsored by Duke Energy, begins Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The hot air balloon race will commence shortly after the parade comes to an end.
