A Bartholomew County man was arrested Friday afternoon after a pursuit with deputies in Jennings County found a large amount of anhydrous ammonia in the trunk of his vehicle.

Maj. Jerry Shepherd, with the Jennings County Sheriff's Office says 44-year-old Daniel Joe Grider, of Elizabethtown, was lodged in the Jennings County Jail on charges of possession of anhydrous and resisting law enforcement. He was also being held at the jail for Bartholomew County on a warrant for probation violation.

Shepherd says deputies were attempting to serve an arrest warrant issued from Bartholomew County on Grider Friday afternoon. Lt. Brian Talkington and Deputy Cody Low attempted to stop Grider's vehicle at the intersection of County Road 500 N and 350 W when the vehicle fled northbound from them at a high rate of speed.

Shepherd says he was going south towards the pursuit from County Road 675 N and Det. Sgt. Jim Blevins and Deputy Anthony Maberry were also near the intersection where the vehicle fled from police. Before the fleeing vehicle could reach the iron bridge at County Road 675 N, the driver lost control and crashed on County Road 275 W near County Road 610 N. After crashing the vehicle, Grider got out and ran as Lt. Talkington and Deputy Low continued to pursue him. Grider was taken into custody a short distance from the crash site. Officers investigating discovered a large tank of anhydrous ammonia in the trunk of the vehicle and other paraphernalia associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine during their investigation and arrest.

Grider was treated by Jennings County EMS for minor injuries from the crash before being taken to the Jennings County Jail for incarceration. Grider is also being held on the original warrant that had been issued out of Bartholomew County for probation violation.
