Semi Crash Leads to Traffic Backup, Motorcycle Crash on I-65

A crash involving two semis led to a major traffic back up on I-65 Wednesday morning.

Sgt. Noel Houze, with Indiana State Police in Versailles, says around 6 a.m., a semi, driven by 53-year-old George Brewington, of Lexington, KY, was just pulling back out onto northbound I-65 near mile marker 59 after being parked on the shoulder of the roadway when another semi, driven by 38-year-old Tony Robinson of Lawrenceburg, KY, struck the rear of Brewington's semi causing extensive damage to both vehicles. Both drivers were not hurt in the crash, but the northbound side of the interstate was limited to one lane for several hours causing a traffic backup for several miles.

Then around 6:30 a.m., a motorcycle, driven by 52-year-old Donald J. Klaes of Seymour, was going north on I-65 near the 57.5 mile marker when he had to stop suddenly due to the traffic backup from the semi crash.

Klaes lost control of the bike and was thrown where he landed head first onto the roadway. He was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for possible fractured ribs and other internal injuries. Klaes was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
