Three Arrested on Burglary Charges

Columbus Police were called to investigate suspicious activity Friday afternoon.

Columbus Public Safety spokesman Lt. Matt Myers explains that a witness saw three men enter a building in the 2700 block of 25th Street. The building they entered, located near Burger King, has been shuttered since the 2008 flood. Police tried to make contact, to no avail. Then, they called in the K-9 Unit.

Just before the dog was released, Myers said the three men surrendered. They were identified as 25-year-old Chip Burton, 22-year-old Cole Lewis and 19-year-old Daulton Knox, all of Columbus.

Police believe the trio were trying to steal copper wiring from the building. All of the men are facing preliminary charges of burglary.

The investigation is ongoing.
