Tuesday will be a big day for North Vernon and Jennings County as the western part of the U.S. 50 North Vernon Bypass will open to traffic.

INDOT says that due to the bad winter weather over the past few days, the ribbon cutting ceremony has been moved to the Park Theatre Civic Center, located on North Madison Avenue in North Vernon. It will start at 1 p.m. Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann and other state and local leaders will be on hand for the event. You're invited.

Drivers should be careful this week as traffic adjusts to the new traffic patterns. A new signal will be activated where State Road 7 meets the new bypass, which will temporarily be named State Road 750 until the eastern phase is completed and connected to U.S. 50.

All other intersections will open as one- or two-way stops with cross-traffic on one of the roads not stopping. You should be patient at either end of the new road, where it connects with U.S. 50 and State Road 3, as other drivers get accustomed to the traffic patterns.
