Whiteland Man Facing Charges after Allegedly Battering Grandmother

A Johnson County man was arrested Sunday night after he allegedly battered his grandmother.

Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox says that at 8:30 p.m., deputies were called to a home in Whiteland where they learned that 18-year-old Hunter Jedele had allegedly attacked his grandmother after she confronted him about his underage drinking.

According to the report, Jedele had twice knocked his grandmother to the ground, ripped the phone from her as she called 911 and grabbed her around the head and neck. Jedele reportedly confessed to responding deputies that he had been drinking and struck his grandmother. Security camera footage inside the home also corroborated the victim's story. A portable breath test showed Jedele had a blood alcohol content of .11.

Jedele was arrested and placed in a patrol car for transport. During the trip to the jail, he allegedly threatened to beat and kill the deputy that was driving. Jedele was booked in the Johnson County Jail on a felony charge of intimidation against a police officer. He is also facing misdemeanor charges of illegal consumption, battery, disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement and interference with the reporting of a crime. Bond is set at $14,000 for all charges.
