Columbus Police are looking for a man who allegedly shot three people while trying to rob them at their apartment in the 2300 block of Sims Court Tuesday evening.

Columbus Public Safety spokesman Lt. Matt Myers says police were called to Columbus Regional Hospital around 5:30 p.m. in reference to the three seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.

When police arrived, they spoke to the victims, ages 20, 19 and 14, who told officers that the man came into their apartment trying to rob them of some property. They said the man pulled out what looked like a semi-automatic pistol from his waistband. The victims tried to disarm the man, a fight took place and shots were fired. Two of the victims were shot in the leg; one was shot in the hand. Myers says their injuries are not life threatening. They were able to disarm the man.

Once the fight was over, they left the man in the hallway. He left prior to police arriving to the apartment. Police searched the area for him, but turned up nothing.

Myers says the suspect is a black man, tall and thin, 20 to 30 years old, wearing a tan shirt and black pants. It's believed he goes by the name "D." It's also unconfirmed that the man may have a mustache or beard. He did suffer significant injuries.

Police have received a few leads in the case and have recovered the weapon.

Myers says since the investigation is in its early stages, police need your help to get answers they are seeking to questions about what actually happened.

If anyone has any information that can lead to the man's arrest, call Sgt. Tom Foust at 376-2600.
