Overturned Semi Slows Traffic on I-65 in Columbus

An overturned semi disrupted traffic for about 13 hours on I-65 near the Columbus exit early Monday morning.

Indiana State Police in Versailles say just past midnight, a semi pulling a box trailer loaded with coffee and driven by 31-year-old Geofrey Simiyu Wepukhulu of Anaheim, CA was northbound on I-65 near the 68 mile marker when he lost control of the semi on the snow and ice covered roadway. The semi overturned landing on the driver's side and blocked both northbound lanes of the interstate. Troopers managed to get the right lane opened to allow traffic to pass, but the semi had to be offloaded before wreckers could upright it and re-open the interstate. The interstate was finally re-opened at about 1:30 Monday afternoon. Wepukhulu was not injured.

Tpr. Holley was assisted at the scene by Columbus Police Department.
