Thursday's snowfall made for significant travel difficulties throughout the area. Sgt. Noel Houze with the Indiana State Police Post in Versailles says that throughout the day, troopers had dealt with numerous crashes and slide-offs related to the slick road conditions.

Houze says that most of those incidents did not end in serious injury. However, at approximately 11:00 a.m., troopers responded to numerous crashes on I-65 at the 45.5 mile marker in Jackson County. One of which resulted in serious injury to a Scottsburg man.

Houze says a flatbed wrecker driven by 34-year-old Roger J. Popp, of Indianapolis, was stopped on the bridge at the 45.5 mile marker southbound due to other crashes in the area when a pickup truck driven by 22-year-old Austin T. Ahart, of Scottsburg, was unable to stop. The pickup crashed into the rear of the wrecker.

Houze says that Ahart sustained serious head injuries in the crash. He was transported to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour before being transferred to University Hospital in Louisville. Popp was uninjured. The crashes caused southbound I-65 to be closed for nearly an hour while troopers cleared the crashes and INDOT crews treated the roadway.

The crash remains under investigation.
