Semi Crashes on I-65 in Bartholomew County

Thursday's slippery road conditions contributed to a crash on I-65 that resulted in the spilling of hazardous chemicals.

Captain Mike Wilson with the Columbus Fire Department says that CFD responded to a report of a hazardous materials spill at the 64 Mile marker on northbound I-65. Wilson says that a semi tractor and trailer jack knifed and toppled on its side. The driver escaped unharmed.

When hazardous materials crews from Columbus Fire Department arrived on the scene, the semi was already up righted and had been towed away. According to CFD Battalion Chief Brian Snyder, the accident left approximately 20 gallons of diesel fuel on the interstate median. Wilson added that this was the second spill on I-65 in the last 10 days.
