Redevelopment Ideas Start to Surface as Sears Prepares to Close

Several ideas are floating around as to what to do with the downtown Columbus Sears store after it closes this spring.

Our news gathering partners at "The Republic" report ideas bubbling up in the minds of community leaders, nonprofit executives and city officials include turning the 62,800-square-foot Sears location into meeting and convention space, an arts and performance center, a satellite educational facility, a grocery store or multiple other uses to attract more visitors and spending to downtown.

Mayor Kristen Brown told the paper quote, "It is a large space and a very important location. I think certainly it could accommodate a major urban in-fill project. The redevelopment possibilities are numerous."
