Smith Announces Candidacy For Sheriff

There is a new candidate in the race to replace outgoing Bartholomew County Sheriff Mark Gorbett.

T.A. Smith, a thirty year veteran of the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department, filed paperwork with the county clerk's office recently. The 56-year-old Republican says he plans to run a "positive, grass-roots campaign."

Smith, who currently serves as Sergeant of the Road Patrol Division, says he has served in many positions of county law enforcement. Those include positions with the jail, narcotics division and a stint as Chief Deputy.

Smith joins a field of several local law enforcement personnel gunning for Bartholomew County law enforcement's top job. Other candidates include Columbus Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Matt Myers, as well as Maj. Todd Noblitt and Capt. Rob Kittle with the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department.
