Pedestrian Injured While Crossing Busy Road

A Johnson County man was injured Thursday night when he was bounced between two cars while trying to carry groceries across a busy road.

Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox said that Richard Radcliff, 67, of Greenwood, was trying to cross Smith Valley Road in Greenwood at about 8:18 p.m. Thursday. Cox said that Radcliff was carrying grocery bags from a nearby store and appeared to have misjudged the flow of the traffic, leaving him stranded in the middle of the road, waiting for traffic to clear.

He was hit first by an eastbound car driven by Denny Woodring, 68, of Indianapolis that then knocked him into a westbound car driven by Elizabeth Gray, 35, of Martinsville, Cox said.

Cox said Radcliff was conscious and alert when medics arrived on the scene. Radcliff appeared to suffer a broken leg and was taken to Methodist Hospital.
