State Road 9 Resurfacing Project to be Finished by Mid-June

Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) construction officials met with contractor representatives Thursday to initiate a pavement preservation project along 8.5 miles of State Road 9. The project begins at State Road 46 in Columbus and runs north to the Shelby / Bartholomew County line.

INDOT spokesman Harry Maginity says Dave O'Mara Contractor of North Vernon submitted the winning low bid of $657,948 last fall for this project. He says the company plans to repair existing State Road 9 roadway with asphalt patches during the month of April. In May, O'Mara crews are scheduled to mill and resurface the north-south highway with a thin hot mix asphalt overlay. The application works by sealing moisture away from the pavement. Maginity adds that the application also extended the road's service life and reestablishes friction between the road surface and vehicle tires for improved safety for drivers and their passengers.

Maginity adds that this project extends through the Town of Hope. He says that concrete curb ramps will be constructed there during the month of April.

INDOT officials anticipate all work will be completed by mid-June.
