Sunday's Edition of 'The Republic'

Our news gathering partners at "The Republic" are working on putting their Sunday edition together. Editor Tom Jekel says they will be talking about maintaining city streets in Columbus.

There are approximately 259 miles of city streets in Columbus. Jekel says Mayor Kristen Brown is floating two options to the Columbus City Council. One is a $3.5 million plan to fix about sixty city streets. Jekel says that plan would repair about 13 of those 259 miles.

A second option being discussed would update the roads in the Walesboro Industrial Park. Brown says those roads are getting much more traffic than what they were originally built for nearly 30 years ago. While that means increased road upkeep, Mayor Brown says it also means increased business and jobs for the city and its residents.
