Rock the Park concert off the list for this year

Rock the Park is off the bill for Columbus concert-goers this year.

The annual concert, held at Mill Race Park in August, has featured acts such as Foreigner, the Gin Blossoms and REO Speedwagon. Karen Shrode, director of the Columbus-Area Arts Council said last night that there will be no concert this year.

The change is being made is to help out the Labor Day weekend concert put on by Our Hospice of South Central's Indiana.

"The reason that we did not schedule a Rock the Park this year is we wanted to give Hospice an opportunity to change their programming format for this year," Shrode said. "They went into it with this year trying to find a band that would be in competition with the genre of music that we were going to be promoting this year for Rock the Park. And we didn't want to compete with them, because that is a huge fundraiser for them."

Shrode said Rock the Park will return in 2015.
