Second teen dies after Edinburgh Dam swimming accident

A second teen has died after a Friday swimming accident on the Big Blue River at the Edinburgh Dam. Michael Chadbourne, 16, died Monday.

Chadbourne was taken to IU Health Methodist in critical condition after he was pulled from the river Friday. On Sunday, rescue workers found the body of 17-year-old Jason Moran near the base of the dam.

Authorities say a group of five teen friends were swimming when they all became trapped in raging waters while trying to rescue 16-year-old Sarah McLevish, -- who had been swept over the Edinburgh Dam. McLevish was in critical condition. Two other teens were uninjured.

The deaths are leading some parents to call for putting signs up, warning potential swimmers to stay out of the dangerous waters near the dam. The river was listed at flood stage when the teens were pulled under.

Counselors will be on hand today at Franklin Community High School to help students dealing with the loss of another classmate.
