Teen saves lives, after giving his own

One of the Franklin teens who died after a swimming accident in the Big Blue River at the Edinburgh Dam last week is now saving the lives of other Hoosiers.

The parents of 16-year-old Michael Chadbourne are honoring his wishes to be an organ donor, according to a report from Metro Radio Network. Organ procurement representatives say his lungs went to an Indiana woman in her 50s, and his liver, pancreas and intestine went to an Indiana man.  They say his heart was donated to a 14-year-old boy in Iowa.

The body of another teen, Jason Moran, was found on Sunday at the base of the dam. The teens were trying to rescue a friend who had been swept over the dam on Friday.

Chadbourne was declared brain-dead on Monday, but his body was kept on life support for the organ donations until yesterday morning.
