Traffic signal work set for State Road 46 in Bartholomew County

The Indiana Department of Transportation will upgrade two traffic signal installations along State Road 46 on either side of Interstate 65 at Columbus. Harry Maginity says the work is slated to begin next week.

Signal Construction of Greenfield is the state's contractor for this $272,000 signal modernization project. It includes traffic control device upgrades at the intersections of State Road 46 and Goeller Boulevard just west of the I-65 interchange, as well as State Road 46 and State Road 11 east of the interstate. Maginity says the contract calls for replacement of signal heads, control cabinets, wiring runs and other work, along with curb and ramp work to make them ADA compliant.

Maginity notes that traffic will be impacted as dictated by location of work activities, but he stresses that at least one travel lane of State Road 46 will be open in both direction at all times. There will be single lane closures as needed.

INDOT officials say that construction signs will go up at signal sites on Monday, with crews scheduled to begin work on Tuesday. This work is dependent on the weather. The project is contracted to be finished by August 29.
