Two arrested after child found in running car

Two parents were arrested Saturday after their child was found locked inside a car in the Kohl's parking lot in Columbus.

Columbus police responded to a report of a child left in a car at the store and found a six-year-old boy locked inside a running vehicle, according to Lt. Matt Myers, spokesman for the Columbus Police Department. Although the air conditioner was on, it was blowing hot air and the temperature in the car was 100 degrees.

The child's father, 43-year-old Shabbir H. Fanee, allegedly told police that the boy did not want to shop at the store, so he and the child's mother, 40-year-old Fizza Fanee, left the boy in the car.

Both parents were arrested on a preliminary charge of neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony. The Department of Child Protective Services took custody of the boy.
