Scipio teen arrested in the death of North Vernon man

A Jennings County man is behind bars after a fatal crash claimed the life of another man late last year.

Tommy Walker, with the Indiana State Police (ISP) Post in Versailles, says that ISP Troopers arrested 19-year-old Devin Ray Fear, of Scipio, on charges related to the November 27, 2013 crash that killed 21-year-old Michael Clinton Clay Taylor, of North Vernon. Fear was taken into custody Thursday evening on a felony charge of reckless homicide and a misdemeanor count of driving while suspended.

Walker says the arrest was the result of an "exhaustive" investigation by Trooper Matt Holley. According to that investigation, the crash occurred at 10:40 p.m. on State Road 7 just north of County Road 300 West in Jennings County. The report also indicated that Taylor was traveling southbound on State Road 7 in a passenger car as Fear was traveling northbound in a full-size pickup when Fear's vehicle crossed the center line, causing a head-on collision. Taylor died of injuries sustained in the crash the next day.

Fear, who was 18-years-old at the time of the crash, had his driving privileges suspended prior at the time of this crash as a result of repeated insurance violations. State Police also say that the vehicle Fear was operating at the time of the crash had no insurance coverage.
