Toddler dies after being found in pool

Update:

A two-year-old girl has died after being found Tuesday night in a relative's above-ground swimming pool.

Bartholomew County Coroner Larry Fisher said that Jazzilyn Jenkins died earlier this morning at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianpaolis.

Bartholomew County Chief Deputy Todd Noblitt says that rescue personnel responded to 5162 Willa Way at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a call that a two-year-old drowned. When personnel arrived on the scene, they discovered that Jazzilyn had gotten into a four-foot above ground pool. It is unknown as to how long she was there. Noblitt says the toddler was visiting a family member at the time of the accident.

Life-saving measures were performed by family members, neighbors and emergency services personnel. The child was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital and then airlifted to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.

Noblitt says that the Sheriff's Department is continuing the investigation into this tragedy with the assistance of Child Protective Services. This incident should serve as a reminder about the dangers of not knowing where your young children are, especially with a pool nearby.
