Police say Franklin armed robbery was an inside job

A reported armed robbery of a Franklin convenience store was an inside job, police say.

On August 7, at approximately 1:53 a.m., Franklin Police responded to Admiral Petroleum, located at 237 West Jefferson Street on an armed robbery complaint. Responding officers spoke with the clerk on duty, who reported being robbed by a white male who claimed to be armed, though no gun was displayed. The alleged robber made off with money and cigarettes before leaving the scene on foot.

Franklin Police Detectives arrested the clerk, 22-year-old Joel D. Glassburn, of Franklin, on Tuesday for conspiring with another Franklin man to stage the robbery. Glassburn is facing preliminary charges of theft and false reporting.

Detectives say the circumstances involving the 20-year-old alleged accomplice are still under investigation and will be submitted to the Johnson County Prosecutor's Office. Franklin Police are requesting that a warrant for theft be issued for his arrest.

Investigators not only believe Glassburn conspired to stage the robbery, but also believe he stole cash deposits from his employer earlier the same night. Police say that a portion of the stolen money, along with the clothing wore during the staged robbery, was recovered from the accomplice's home last Friday.
