Board of Works makes decision on properties deemed dangerous

The Columbus Board of Public Works and Safety held a special meeting Tuesday night to discuss the fates of twelve properties that were considered dangerous. The board voted to take the following action on these properties:

1027 Pennsylvania - suffers from foundation collapse; mold/mildew risk;
Property owners given 14 days to demolish

1036 Union St. - exterior fire damage; electrical service burned out;
Hearing continued until Sept. 9 to give owner additional time to remedy the problem

1313 Ninth St. - unfit for habitation; remodeling delayed to repeated theft;
Hearing continued until Sept. 9 to give owner additional time to remedy the problem

1522 19th St. - interior fire damage has been repaired;
Demolition order rescinded

2013 N Cherry St. - damaged by fire; home removed, but basement open;
Hearing continued until Nov. 5 to give owner additional time to remedy the problem  

2020 Sixth St. - foundation collapse from 2008 flood; unfit for habitation;
Hearing continued until Oct. 7 to give owner additional time to remedy the problem

2143 23rd St. - fire and smoke damage; not habitable;
Hearing continued until Sept. 9 to give owner additional time to remedy the problem

48 S Hinman - fire damage; foundation and structural weakness; not habitable;
Hearing continued until Oct. 7 to give owner additional time to remedy the problem

The city attempted to contact the owners of the following buildings by certified letter, but were not successful. The Board of Works voted to publish a public notice for demolition of:

727 Reed - fire damage; foundation decay; no electric service; not habitable;

834 Werner - holes in roof; structural decay; condemned by Bartholomew County Health Department for sewer issues;

371 Jones St. - roof and foundation collapse; structural decay; not habitable;

1317 Ninth St. - abandoned; not maintained; not secured; not habitable
