Columbus firefighters responded to a car fire in the parking lot of a hotel Wednesday morning.

Columbus Fire Department Capt. Mike Wilson says firefighters were called to the Clarion Hotel on Jonathan Moore Pike at 9:38 a.m. The caller advised dispatchers that they smelled an electrical odor and could see smoke coming from the engine compartment.  Flames erupted a few minutes later, with smoke reportedly visible from a mile away.

The vehicle is owned by 37-year-old Aaron Royalty, of Seymour. Royalty told firefighters he had just arrived at the Clarion 20 minutes earlier before being alerted of the fire. He also stated that he had not had any mechanical issues with the vehicle prior to the blaze.

Wilson says that firefighters had the fire extinguished within two minutes but remained on the scene as they traced smoke to the dash area.  The cause of the fire is undetermined and the vehicle is considered a total loss. No injuries were reported.
