Amphitheater work approved by Redevelopment Commission

The Columbus Redevelopment Commission voted to begin work on the first phase of the Custer Nugent Amphitheater at Mill Race Park.

Commission members voted to engage the services of Westlake Reed Leskowsky to redesign the amphitheater at a cost of $15,000. Along with the actual redesign schematics, the money approved Monday night also covers travel for a pair of presentations to city officials.

An issue involving payment remains unresolved. The original resolution submitted by Redevelopment Director Heather Pope called for a $20,000 payment. The difference includes fees that Westlake Reed Leskowsky included for initial work that they originally told city officials would be free, out of their desire to have a project in Columbus. Mayor Kristen Brown said that she didn't think it was appropriate for the company to ask for payment after the fact. The commission agreed and withheld those funds.
