Columbus Alzheimer's Walk

The Alzheimer's Association is inviting Columbus residents to take part in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. The Columbus Walk to End Alzheimer's will take place on Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Mill Race Center.

Leah Shattuck, Communications Director for the Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana Chapter, says the Walk to End Alzheimer's is more than a walk. She calls is an experience for more than 400 participants in Columbus who will learn about Alzheimer's disease and how to get involved with this critical cause. Shattuck adds that participants will also join in a ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease.

“There has never been a greater need to join in the fight against Alzheimer's disease by participating in Walk to End Alzheimer's,” said Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana Chapter Executive Director Heather Hershberger. “Funds raised will provide care and support services to the thousands of Hoosiers living with Alzheimer's, while also contributing to advancing critically-needed research that could change the course of Alzheimer's disease for future generations.”

The Alzheimer's Association says the disease is a growing epidemic and the nation's sixth-leading cause of death. As baby boomers age, officials say the number of individuals living with Alzheimer's disease will rapidly escalate, more than tripling to as many as 16 million by the year 2050.
